(1) technical and talent barriers
Connectors integrate disciplines such as mechanics, machinery, materials, electricity, automation, etc., and belong to a multi-disciplinary comprehensive application industry, which requires enterprises to have a variety of professional and technical personnel. Connectors have a wide range of applications and various specifications, and it is often necessary to constantly develop new products according to the rapid update of customers' products, which requires enterprises to have strong process design and quality control capabilities, and have experienced design and research personnel to quickly respond to customers' needs. In recent years, in order to reduce labor costs and improve production efficiency, connector enterprises began to introduce automatic or semi-automatic production equipment, which also put forward higher requirements for enterprises' technical digestion and absorption capacity. Due to the long training period of design and R&D personnel, it is difficult to form an experienced technical team in a short time, which constitutes a certain technical and talent barrier for enterprises planning to enter the connector industry.
(2) Customer authentication barriers
Because the quality of connectors is very important to the function of terminal products, large manufacturers of terminal products generally require necessary supplier certification for connector manufacturers to stabilize the supply channels and product quality. Generally, supplier certification will put forward strict requirements for the supplier's R&D capability, facilities and equipment, process flow, quality management, historical performance and operating conditions, and it will take a long time, even more than one year, to formally become a qualified supplier after qualification review, product review, business review, small batch trial supply and batch supply. Connector manufacturers that have passed supplier certification will establish a long-term and stable strategic cooperative relationship with customers, and customers will not easily change suppliers. The strict supplier certification mechanism and long-term strategic cooperation in connector industry have formed a high barrier for enterprises planning to enter the connector industry.
(3) Scale and brand barriers
With the continuous progress of science and technology and the development of downstream industries, the downstream industries have higher and higher requirements on the mechanical performance, electrical performance and environmental performance of connectors, which require connectors to have better consistency and stability, and also put forward higher requirements on the product quality, R&D strength, price level and delivery period of connector manufacturers. Therefore, downstream customers generally choose manufacturers with large scale, high reputation, good reputation and stable product quality, and establish long-term and stable cooperative relations with them. However, new entrants are difficult to gain market and customer recognition due to unstable quality, low finished product rate and low brand awareness.
